One of the major teams of the NFL (National Football League) would be the newly crowned Super Bowl Champs. The Steelers have recently won the 2006 Super Bowl and have worked hard for the title.  However, who are the Steelers?  The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the oldest franchises in the league.  Mr. A. Rooney founded them on July 8, 1933.

Their name was originally the Pittsburgh Pirates (which is the name for the professional baseball league located in Pittsburgh).  The Pittsburgh Pirates where converted in the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1940.  When they started playing their were only four other teams; Cardinals, Packers, Bears, and Giants.  Art Rooney, original owner of the team, was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1964.

Over the years, the Steelers have had great coaches that too were inducted in the Hall of Fame like Bill Dudley.  However, Buddy Parker led the team to five years of winning.  During this time, Hall of Fame, Bobby Layne led the team to three of those championships. In the 1970's, Terry Bradshaw was on the Steelers.  You may know Terry from his announcing Monday Night Football or from his recent acting in the new Jessica Sara Parker film.

Over the years the Steelers home has changed many times.  They began at Forbs field and then to Pitt Stadium and then Three Rivers.  The Steelers are constantly updating their fields and equipment so that they have an advantage of having the best.  The Steelers have been in many Super Bowls and play offs.  They have many titles under their belt and have had the chance to have men like Bradshaw play for them.

The Steelers is one of the teams in Pennsylvania that gets a lot of support and news. During the 2006 football play-offs and Super Bowl, everyone was talking about the Steelers.  The Steelers was chosen to win before the game even started, but there were many people who didn't want to media to through the game out of proportion.  The game was very important to everyone, but both teams worked hard to achieve the honor.  The Steelers took some hard hits in the game and so did the other team.  The Steelers came to the Super Bowl and took the title. They are, historically, one of the greatest teams and keep making history will every season.
