Professional football is held under the National Football League rules. Well football in America started out as soccer. The first soccer game to ever be played in America was between the Rutgers and Princeton colleges. In 1876, the first rules for American football were written and the father of American football (Walter Camp) helped football get its start. Back in the early nineteen hundreds, football players where only paid $500 to play professionally. Could you imagine if today's pros were paid only $500? The first two teams where the Allegheny Athletic Association and Pittsburgh Athletic Club. The first teams that become professional teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers (formerly Pirates), Cardinals, Packers, Bears, and Giants. The very first team was the Cardinals who started in Chicago and moved to St. Louis, then to Phoenix, and finally to Arizona. They still remain a professional team and is the oldest team still around.
Ever since then, the professional football league has grown and continues to grow. As stated, the first professional player was only paid $500. Today, professional players are paid millions of dollars, and then they receive millions more through advertisements and endorsements. The game has been around for more than a century, and has grown from such a small sport into something that is one of the most important sports played in America. The NFL regulates professional football. The NFL, today, has over 30 teams that play or represent many of the states. Today football is mostly hyped when it comes to the super bowl. The super bowl is what defines a good professional football team. There are teams that have never won a super bowl title and then there are some who have won many. Professional football teams usually recruit students from colleges. They scout out the colleges to see what players have the potential and what players have what it takes to become a football player. Football players are disciplined individuals. They try to focus as much as possible on the game, and find ways to not be distracted from the main goal of the team. The team's goal every year is to make it to the Super Bowl. Rather you win or lose the Super Bowl, you are still considered a great, competitive professional football team.
