The object of football is to score as many points as you can and more than the opposing team within a given time period.  The game is often called the gridiron, because that is what the field is called.  It has markings that resemble a grill.  The game is played on a field that is 120 yards long and 53 1/3 yards wide.  The 120 yards are split into five sections of 20 yards.  The field contains of sidelines and end lines.  Near each end zone is a field post.  The end zone is 10 yards wide before the field post.  The field posts are 18.5 feet apart and are used in field goals.  The goal line is what separates the field from the end zone.  Yard lines are marked every five yards and are numbered from each goal line to the middle of the field or fifty-yard mark.

Each team has eleven players on the field at one time always.  There are usually 50 or more members of an NFL team and because of the game being so complicated most players will play at least once in each game.  Each member has a very specialized role rather it be on offense or defense.  Each player gets a uniform and a number according to a system.  However, each team also has special teams.

Duration of a game can be very difficult, because players and coaches can be called on penalties and fouls that will expand the time of a game.  Important games like the super bowl can take hours because it is so important that every call must be made, because there are so many things riding on the super bowl.

Each team wants to advance on the field and gain as many yards at a single time as possible.  The closer the team is to the goal line, the harder the opposing team must play to stop the play from turning into a touchdown.  Football players are allowed to tackle and get the runner on the ground so the play will be done and the ball would be dead.  The point is to get the touchdowns and field goals because that is what gets the points to add up.  The team with the most points wins the glory and title depending on rather it is a championship game or not.
