American football is a distinct type of football played in the United States. It is often confused with European football or, what they call, Soccer – a football game where you use your feet to control the ball unlike American football, where you use your hands to control the ball and hence, the game. Here is a simple demonstration of a football game. Basically, a team is supposed to get the ball over its opponent’s goal line in order to score. If they do make it to the goal line, six points will be awarded. Then the team will have a chance to get a field goal by kicking the ball through two posts. IF a field goal is considered fair, the team will score an extra point.
Teams have a total of 4 quarters to score as much as possible. Since many penalties or fouls are called in a game, and teams also have the right to call for time-outs; a football game could last as long as 2 to 3 hours. In the U.S., college ball games or College Football is the amateur competition while major league ball games or the National Football League is the professional competition. Schools that are located throughout the States compete with one another for Bowl titles; the major one that every school wants to take home is the Rose Bowl. Albeit, apart from that, there are many other important games like the Orange Bowl or the Cotton Bowl. On the other hand, a professional competition like the NFL is played across America for the Super Bowl Championship title. Football may be a very aggressive game that often causes players serious injury, but going pro has its perks. Just like other sports, professional players get paid millions in dollars per season.
